3 Sachet Orange Flavour Sachet contains Ethambutol 825 mg, Isoniazid 225 mg, and Rifampicin 450 mg, a combination of first-line anti-tuberculosis medicines used to treat active tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin rapidly kills actively multiplying TB bacteria by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis. Isoniazid destroys TB bacteria by blocking the production of mycolic acids, essential components of the bacterial cell wall, making it one of the most effective anti-TB medicines. Ethambutol inhibits bacterial cell wall formation and helps prevent the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria when used in combination therapy.

Together, these medicines attack Mycobacterium tuberculosis through different mechanisms, improving bacterial eradication and reducing the likelihood of treatment failure. Strict adherence to the complete treatment regimen is essential to prevent relapse and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. During therapy, patients require regular monitoring of liver function, vision, and treatment response. Maintaining good nutrition and attending all follow-up appointments further improves treatment outcomes.

Precaution

  • Use only under medical supervision.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, gout, HIV infection, vision problems, or a history of alcohol misuse.
  • Regular liver function tests and eye examinations (especially with Ethambutol) may be required during treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of liver damage.
  • Rifampicin can reduce the effectiveness of many medicines, including oral contraceptives, anticoagulants, and certain HIV medicines. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.
  • Rifampicin may cause orange-red discoloration of urine, tears, saliva, and sweat, which is harmless but may permanently stain soft contact lenses.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Storage

  • Store below 25–30°C in a cool and dry place.
  • Protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is 3 Sachet Orange Flavour Sachet used for?

AIt is used as part of the treatment for active tuberculosis (TB) and should always be taken according to your doctor's prescribed treatment plan.

2. Why is it important to complete the full TB treatment?

AStopping treatment early can allow TB bacteria to survive, leading to relapse, treatment failure, and drug-resistant tuberculosis, which is much harder to treat.

3. Why has my urine turned orange-red after taking this medicine?

ARifampicin commonly causes harmless orange-red discoloration of urine, tears, saliva, and sweat. This is expected and usually not a cause for concern.

4. Can I drink alcohol while taking this medicine?

ANo. Alcohol should be avoided because it significantly increases the risk of liver damage, especially when combined with isoniazid and rifampicin.

5. Will I need regular medical tests during treatment?

AYes. Your doctor may recommend liver function tests, vision examinations (because of ethambutol), and regular follow-up visits to monitor your response and detect side effects early.

6. When should I seek immediate medical attention?

ASeek urgent medical care if you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, dark urine, blurred vision, difficulty distinguishing colors, severe skin rash, unusual bleeding, difficulty breathing, or signs of a severe allergic reaction, as these may indicate serious complications requiring immediate treatment.
