Akostol 100mg Tab is an oral prokinetic agent used primarily for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD), particularly in patients experiencing postprandial distress syndrome (PDS). It is a novel drug that enhances gastric motility and improves gastric emptying, providing relief from symptoms such as bloating, early satiety, upper abdominal discomfort, and post-meal fullness.

Acotiamide works by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the availability of acetylcholine at the gastrointestinal neuromuscular junction. This action helps to restore normal stomach movement and coordination, which is often impaired in functional dyspepsia. Unlike older prokinetic drugs, Acotiamide does not have significant effects on dopamine or serotonin receptors, making it safer and better tolerated in long-term use.

The 100 MG strength is the standard therapeutic dose and is typically administered three times daily before meals.
