It combines Amoxicillin, a penicillin-class antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects Amoxicillin from bacterial enzymes that can make it ineffective. This combination is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, sinus infections, ear infections, throat infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, and certain bone and joint infections. Bactoclav works only against bacterial infections and is not effective for viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu. To ensure complete eradication of bacteria and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance, the full course should be completed exactly as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before the medicine is finished.
Bactoclav 1000 mg Tablet combines Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid to provide enhanced protection against a wide range of bacterial infections. Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that destroys bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall, causing bacterial death. However, some bacteria produce enzymes called beta-lactamases that can inactivate Amoxicillin. Clavulanic Acid inhibits these enzymes, protecting Amoxicillin from breakdown and restoring its effectiveness against resistant bacteria.
This combination allows Bactoclav to treat infections caused by both ordinary and beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. It is commonly used for respiratory tract infections, ear infections, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and dental infections. Completing the prescribed course is essential to completely eliminate bacteria, prevent recurrence, and reduce the development of antibiotic resistance. When used appropriately under medical supervision, Bactoclav provides effective treatment and supports faster recovery from bacterial infections.
