Corfil FCM 500 mg Injection is an intravenous iron replacement therapy used to treat iron deficiency anemia, particularly when oral iron supplements are not effective or cannot be used.

Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) 500 mg/ml is an intravenous iron replacement therapy used to rapidly correct iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, especially in patients who cannot tolerate oral iron supplements, have poor absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, or require quick replenishment of iron stores. It consists of a stable iron-carbohydrate complex that delivers a high amount of elemental iron directly into the bloodstream.

After intravenous administration, the ferric carboxymaltose complex is taken up by the body's reticuloendothelial system, where iron is gradually released and binds to transferrin, the protein responsible for transporting iron throughout the body.

The transported iron is then utilized by the bone marrow for the production of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells, while excess iron is stored as ferritin in the liver, spleen, and bone marrow for future use. By restoring iron levels, FCM helps increase hemoglobin production, improve oxygen delivery to tissues, reduce symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and shortness of breath, and support normal cellular energy production, cognitive function, and immune system activity.

Precaution

• Allergy: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ferric carboxymaltose or any of its components
• Iron overload disorders: Should be avoided in conditions like hemochromatosis
• Liver disease: Use cautiously in severe liver impairment
• Infections: Iron can promote bacterial growth; avoid during active infections
