DAPADAX-GM 10/2/500 Tablet is a combination medication used to treat Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps control high blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of complications such as kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, and cardiovascular disease. This medication is most effective when combined with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management as advised by a healthcare provider.

Mode of Action:

  • Dapagliflozin: Blocks SGLT2 in the kidneys, increasing glucose excretion in urine, thus lowering blood sugar levels.
  • Glimepiride: Stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and enhances insulin sensitivity.
  • Metformin: Decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity.
This combination works synergistically to manage blood glucose levels effectively.

Dosage:

  • Take as prescribed by a doctor, typically once daily with or without food, preferably at the same time each day to maintain consistency.
  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it.
  • Do not stop or adjust the dose without consulting your doctor, as this may lead to uncontrolled blood sugar levels.

Side Effects:
Common side effects include:

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Genital fungal infections
  • Urinary tract infections
Most side effects are temporary and resolve as the body adjusts. Consult a doctor if side effects persist or worsen. Serious side effects like lactic acidosis (rare, caused by metformin) may occur, presenting as deep/rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Precautions and Warnings:

  • Contraindications: Avoid if allergic to dapagliflozin, glimepiride, metformin, or any other ingredients; if you have Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, or a history of diabetic coma.
  • Kidney/Liver Disease: Use with caution; dose adjustments may be needed. Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function is recommended.
  • Alcohol: Limit consumption, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis.
  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: May be unsafe during pregnancy; consult your doctor. Limited data exists on breastfeeding safety.
  • Driving: Avoid driving if blood sugar levels are too low or high, as this may impair concentration.
  • Dehydration: Dapagliflozin may cause increased urination, leading to dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and maintain good genital hygiene to prevent infections.
  • Hypoglycemia: Carry sugary food or fruit juice to manage symptoms like cold sweats, tremors, or anxiety.

Interactions:

  • May interact with diuretics (e.g., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), increasing dehydration or low blood pressure risk.
  • Other antidiabetic medications or alcohol may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
  • Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, or herbal products to avoid interactions.

Storage:

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
