DAPADRIFT M 5/500 mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic agents:

  • Dapagliflozin (5 mg): A Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion.

  • Metformin (500 mg): A Biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.

Together, they offer a complementary approach to managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adults.

USES

  • Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adults

  • Used when diet, exercise, and monotherapy do not provide adequate blood sugar control

  • May also help in reducing cardiovascular risks and slowing the progression of diabetic kidney disease in certain patients

BENEFITS

  • Dual mechanism of action for effective glycemic control:

    • Dapagliflozin: Removes excess glucose via urine

    • Metformin: Lowers liver glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity

  • Low risk of hypoglycemia (when not combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)

  • Potential weight loss benefit (due to dapagliflozin)

  • May provide cardiovascular and renal benefits in eligible patients

  • Improved treatment adherence through a single-pill regimen

  • Better tolerability in patients starting metformin therapy at a lower dose

SIDE EFFECTS

Common Side Effects:

  • Increased urination

  • Genital fungal infections (especially in females)

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (mainly due to Metformin)

  • Headache

  • Urinary tract infections

Less Common / Serious Side Effects:

  • Lactic acidosis (rare but serious; associated with Metformin, especially in renal impairment)

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (rare but serious; associated with SGLT2 inhibitors)

  • Dehydration or hypotension

  • Hypoglycemia (more likely when used with insulin or sulfonylureas)

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, or swelling)
