Dermiquik 5 Cream is a prescription combination topical medicine used for the treatment of inflamed skin conditions associated with fungal or bacterial infections. It combines Clobetasol Propionate, a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, itching, and swelling; Ketoconazole and Tolnaftate, which are antifungal agents effective against various skin fungi; Neomycin, an antibiotic that treats susceptible bacterial infections; and Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline (Clioquinol), an antimicrobial agent with antifungal and antibacterial activity. This combination is commonly prescribed for selected cases of infected dermatitis or mixed skin infections where inflammation is significant. Because it contains a very potent steroid (Clobetasol), it should be used only for the duration and condition prescribed by a healthcare professional. It should not be used indiscriminately for undiagnosed rashes, acne, viral skin infections, or prolonged periods, as inappropriate use may worsen certain infections or cause skin damage.

Dermiquik 5 Cream combines Clobetasol Propionate 0.05%, Ketoconazole 2%, Tolnaftate 1%, Neomycin 0.1%, and Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline 1% to provide broad-spectrum management of selected inflamed skin conditions complicated by fungal and bacterial infections. Clobetasol Propionate rapidly reduces inflammation, redness, itching, and swelling by suppressing the skin's inflammatory response. Ketoconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, effectively treating susceptible fungal infections. Tolnaftate further enhances antifungal activity by inhibiting fungal growth, particularly in superficial dermatophyte infections. Neomycin eliminates susceptible bacteria by blocking bacterial protein synthesis, reducing secondary bacterial infection. Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline (Clioquinol) provides additional antibacterial and antifungal coverage, making the formulation useful in selected mixed superficial skin infections.

Together, these ingredients help relieve symptoms, reduce infection, and promote healing. Because the cream contains a high-potency corticosteroid, it should be used only for short periods and under medical supervision to minimize the risk of steroid-related side effects and avoid masking or worsening untreated infections.

Precaution

  • Use only under medical supervision because it contains Clobetasol, a very potent corticosteroid.
  • Do not use for viral infections (such as cold sores, chickenpox, or shingles), untreated skin tuberculosis, or syphilitic skin lesions.
  • Avoid prolonged use, as it may cause skin thinning, stretch marks, steroid acne, or suppression of adrenal gland function.
  • Avoid applying to large body areas or under occlusive dressings unless directed.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or poor circulation, as steroids may delay wound healing.
  • Stop the cream and seek medical advice if irritation worsens or there is no improvement after the prescribed treatment period.

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a cool and dry place.
  • Protect from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed after use.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Dermiquik 5 Cream used for?

ADermiquik 5 Cream is used to treat certain inflamed skin conditions with susceptible fungal and/or bacterial infections, reducing itching, redness, swelling, and infection.

2. Can I use Dermiquik 5 Cream for ringworm or athlete's foot?

AUse it only if prescribed by your doctor. Since it contains Clobetasol, inappropriate use on fungal infections can sometimes mask symptoms or worsen the infection, especially if used for too long.

3. Can I apply Dermiquik 5 Cream to my face?

AIt should not be used on the face unless specifically prescribed, because Clobetasol is a very potent steroid and may cause skin thinning, acne, and other side effects.

4. How long should I use Dermiquik 5 Cream?

AUse it only for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Prolonged use increases the risk of steroid-related side effects and may lead to worsening or recurrence of infection.

5. Can I cover the treated area with a bandage?

ADo not cover the treated area with airtight dressings or bandages unless instructed by your doctor, as this can increase absorption of the steroid and raise the risk of side effects.

6. When should I seek immediate medical attention?

ASeek urgent medical care if you develop severe skin irritation, blistering, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, widespread rash, worsening infection, pus formation, or signs of a severe allergic reaction, or if your skin condition rapidly worsens despite treatment.
