EMPACRUX S 25MG/100MG Tablet is a combination medication used primarily in the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and associated cardiovascular conditions.
Composition
- Empagliflozin (25 mg): An SGLT2 (Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2) inhibitor that reduces glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in urine and thereby lowering blood sugar levels
Metformin (100 mg): A biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and enhances insulin sensitivity, contributing to improved glycemic control.
Indications
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control
Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease
Mechanism of Action
- Empagliflozin: Inhibits SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion.
Metformin: Lowers blood glucose by decreasing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity.
