LINADIA M 5/500 mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic agents:

  • Linagliptin (5 mg) – a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor

  • Metformin (500 mg) – a Biguanide class antihyperglycemic agent

This combination is designed to improve glycemic control in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) by addressing both insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity.

USES

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adults

  • Used when diet, exercise, and monotherapy with either Linagliptin or Metformin are insufficient

  • Can be part of a broader diabetes management plan, either alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medications

BENEFITS

  • Dual action:

    • Linagliptin enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner

    • Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity

  • Low risk of hypoglycemia (when not combined with sulfonylureas or insulin)

  • Weight neutral – does not typically cause weight gain

  • Once or twice daily oral dosing (as prescribed), improving patient convenience and adherence

  • Effective HbA1c reduction through complementary mechanisms of action

SIDE EFFECTS

Common Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain) – mostly due to Metformin

  • Headache

  • Upper respiratory tract infections

  • Nasopharyngitis (common cold symptoms)

Less Common / Serious Side Effects:

  • Lactic acidosis (a rare but serious side effect associated with Metformin, especially in patients with renal impairment)

  • Pancreatitis (rare, may occur with DPP-4 inhibitors like Linagliptin)

  • Hypoglycemia (more likely if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling – rare)
