Dapagliflozin 10 mg – an SGLT2 inhibitor
Linagliptin 5 mg – a DPP-4 inhibitor
Metformin 1000 mg – a biguanide
This combination works through complementary mechanisms to effectively control blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It is used when monotherapy or dual therapy does not provide adequate glycemic control.
Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adults
To improve glycemic control when diet, exercise, and either dual therapy or monotherapy are inadequate
May provide cardiovascular and renal benefits (due to dapagliflozin component)
Can be part of combination therapy with other antidiabetic agents as prescribed by a physician
Triple mechanism of action for effective and sustained blood glucose control:
Dapagliflozin: Promotes glucose excretion via the kidneys
Linagliptin: Enhances incretin levels, stimulating insulin secretion
Metformin: Reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity
Weight reduction or weight neutrality (mostly from dapagliflozin)
Low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone
Cardiovascular and renal protection (associated with dapagliflozin)
Improves patient compliance with once-daily oral dosing
Common Side Effects:
Genital infections (fungal)
Urinary tract infections
Increased urination
Diarrhea, nausea, or stomach discomfort (mainly due to Metformin)
Headache
Nasopharyngitis (cold-like symptoms)
Less Common / Serious Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia (especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)
Dehydration or low blood pressure
Lactic acidosis (a rare but serious risk with Metformin; more likely in patients with kidney impairment)
Pancreatitis (rare, but possible with DPP-4 inhibitors like Linagliptin)
Diabetic ketoacidosis (rare, but a known risk with SGLT2 inhibitors)
Allergic skin reactions (rash, itching)
