Ocuvir Eye Oint

Ocuvir Eye Oint is a topical antiviral medication used to treat herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes lesions. It belongs to a class of drugs known as nucleoside analogues, which work by inhibiting viral DNA replication. This formulation is designed for external application to the skin and offers localized antiviral action with minimal systemic absorption.

The 0.3% w/w concentration is typically used in certain formulations where milder or controlled-release effects are desired—such as in pediatric use, sensitive skin types, or prophylactic (preventive) applications in high-risk patients. It may also be used in compounded dermatologic preparations prescribed by a physician.

Acyclovir is active against HSV-1 and HSV-2, and is most effective when applied at the first sign of a herpes outbreak, such as tingling, itching, or burning. While it does not cure herpes, it helps to reduce the severity, duration, and recurrence of symptoms when used early.
