Oseltamivir 75 mg tablets are used to:

• Treat acute, uncomplicated influenza (flu) caused by influenza A and B viruses in adults and children aged 2 weeks and older who have had flu symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue) for no more than 48 hours. It helps reduce the severity and duration of flu symptoms by 1-2 days.
• Prevent influenza in adults and children aged 1 year and older following close contact with an infected individual or during a flu outbreak in the community.
• It is also used to treat specific strains like H1N1 (swine flu) and may be prescribed for immunocompromised patients or those at high risk of flu complications (e.g., pregnant women, elderly, or those with comorbidities).

Mechanism of Action:
Oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor that blocks the influenza virus enzyme neuraminidase, preventing the virus from spreading within the body. This helps the immune system fight the infection and reduces symptom duration.

Dosage and Administration:

• Treatment of Flu: 75 mg taken orally twice daily for 5 days (adults and adolescents aged 13 and older). For immunocompromised patients, treatment may extend to 10 days.
• Prevention of Flu: 75 mg taken orally once daily for at least 10 days, starting within 2 days of exposure, or up to 6 weeks during a community outbreak.
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset.
• For patients unable to swallow capsules, the contents can be mixed with a sweetened liquid (e.g., chocolate syrup) as directed by a healthcare provider.

Form and Appearance:

• Capsule: Hard gelatin capsule, typically grey opaque body with a light-yellow opaque cap, imprinted with markings such as “75 mg,” “M,” or brand-specific codes (e.g., “H 5,” “Nat 75 mg,” “Amneal 266”).
• Contains oseltamivir phosphate equivalent to 75 mg oseltamivir.
• May contain small amounts of ethanol (<100 mg per dose) in the capsule shell ink.

Storage:

• Store at room temperature, 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Brief exposure to 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C) is acceptable (e.g., during transport).
