Rolidac CD 20 mg Capsule is a combination medication used for:
- Prevention of heart attack and stroke: Reduces the risk of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
- Management of hyperlipidemia: Lowers elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
- Treatment of atherosclerosis: Helps prevent the progression of plaque buildup in arteries.
Mechanism of Action:
- Rosuvastatin: Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby decreasing the risk of atherosclerosis.
- Clopidogrel: Inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, preventing blood clot formation and reducing the risk of thrombotic events like heart attack or stroke.
Dosage and Administration:
- Recommended Dose: One capsule daily, or as prescribed by the healthcare provider.
- Administration: Take orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew.
- Note: Dosage and duration depend on the patient’s condition, risk factors, and response to treatment. Always follow the doctor’s instructions.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin, clopidogrel, or any component of the formulation.
- Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver enzymes.
- Active bleeding disorders (e.g., peptic ulcer, intracranial hemorrhage).
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (Rosuvastatin is a Category X drug and may harm the fetus).
- Severe renal impairment (for clopidogrel, use with caution).
Precautions:
- Bleeding Risk: Clopidogrel increases the risk of bleeding. Use caution during activities that may cause injury, and inform the doctor before surgical or dental procedures.
- Muscle Pain: Rosuvastatin may cause myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. Report unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, especially if accompanied by fever or malaise.
- Liver Function: Monitor liver function tests before and during treatment, as rosuvastatin may cause liver enzyme elevations.
- Kidney Function: Use cautiously in patients with impaired renal function; dose adjustments may be required.
- Drug Interactions: Avoid concomitant use with certain medications (e.g., cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, or antacids containing aluminum/magnesium) that may affect efficacy or increase side effects.
Side Effects:
- Common: Headache, dizziness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, weakness, indigestion.
- Serious:
- Increased bleeding risk (e.g., gastrointestinal bleeding, nosebleeds, hematoma).
- Muscle injury (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis).
- Liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine).
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).
- Elevated blood sugar levels or kidney problems (rare).
Storage:
- Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from moisture and light.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not use after the expiry date.
