Abec L Tablet

Abec L Tablet is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet used as part of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents weighing at least 25 kg. This combination includes two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs):

• Abacavir: Inhibits reverse transcriptase and blocks HIV replication by interfering with viral DNA synthesis.

• Lamivudine: Also targets reverse transcriptase, working synergistically with Abacavir to suppress viral replication.

This dual-NRTI combination is frequently used as a backbone in a triple-drug ART regimen, typically paired with a third agent (such as an integrase inhibitor or non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor).

When taken consistently, Abacavir + Lamivudine helps achieve and maintain undetectable viral load, promotes immune recovery (increased CD4 counts), and reduces the risk of HIV progression and transmission.

This formulation is often used in combination regimens such as Dolutegravir + Abacavir + Lamivudine (DTG/ABC/3TC) for complete HIV suppression. However, Abacavir + Lamivudine as a standalone FDC allows for flexible regimen customization in specific patient populations.
