Disorb 25mg Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medication used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, which work by slowing down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the small intestine. This mechanism helps prevent sudden spikes in postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar levels.

Unlike other oral anti-diabetic drugs that increase insulin secretion or sensitivity, Acarbose works locally in the gut and does not affect insulin production. It is typically prescribed as part of a comprehensive diabetes management plan, which includes diet, exercise, and possibly other anti-diabetic medications.

Each tablet contains 25 mg of Acarbose, making it ideal for initiating therapy or adjusting doses in patients with mild hyperglycemia. It is especially effective in managing post-meal glucose control and is often used in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.

Acarbose is not a substitute for insulin and should not be used to treat Type 1 Diabetes. It also does not cause low blood sugar on its own but may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with other glucose-lowering medications.
