Gbay Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medication used in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, particularly for patients who need better postprandial blood glucose control. It belongs to the class of drugs called alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, which work by slowing down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the small intestine.

Unlike many other anti-diabetic medications that affect insulin secretion or sensitivity, Acarbose acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract. By delaying the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into glucose, Acarbose helps prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels after meals. This makes it especially effective in reducing post-meal hyperglycemia, a common issue in Type 2 diabetes.

Each tablet contains 50 mg of Acarbose, making it suitable for step-up therapy from a lower dose (e.g., 25 mg), or for patients requiring a moderate level of glucose control. Acarbose can be used as monotherapy in patients with mild hyperglycemia, or in combination with other oral anti-diabetic agents or insulin when additional control is needed.

This medicine does not cause hypoglycemia on its own and does not promote weight gain, making it an effective choice for weight-conscious diabetic patients or those on combination therapy. It should be used along with a balanced diet and regular exercise program for optimal results.
